On Valentine's Day, LVSO patrons will have a rare opportunity to enjoy an exceptionally gifted duo – internationally renowned opera singers, partners on stage and in life, Dmytro Popov and Julia Novikova. They will join the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra conducted by maestro Gintaras Rinkevičius for a special programme of the most famous love arias and duets.
Ukrainian tenor Dmytro Popov began his career with the role of Lensky in the Kiev National Opera's production of Tchaikovsky Eugene Onegin. He came to international attention after his debut in Puccini La Bohème at the Royal Opera House. Over the last year alone, Dmytro Popov sang at the Metropolitan Opera New York, Dresden Semperoper, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Opéra National de Paris and the major houses in Vienna, Berlin, Zurich and Madrid.
The singer's wife, Russian soprano Julia Novikova made her debut at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg at the age of 23 and quickly established herself as one of the leading sopranos of her generation. The Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Paris, Carnegie Hall New York, The Royal Opera House are just a few venues where this talented singer has performed. "Julia is a bright star. Working with her is a sheer delight as she sings and acts at a level you usually only find in performers of many more years of experience," this is what the singer's stage partner, the legendary tenor Placido Domingo said about her.
