“Without doubt an exceptional artist“, – this is how the Kyiv-born Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko was described in the French daily “Le Figaro” in 2017. Winner of the Gold Medal at the prestigious Cliburn Competition (USA), V. Kholodenko has the reputation of being one of the most musically dynamic and technically gifted young pianists.

V. Kholodenko performed his first concerts in the United States of America when he was just 13 years old. Now, the pianist performs with the most famous symphony orchestras in the USA, such as Philadelphia, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Rochester, San Diego and others. In 2017, after his debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (London), V. Kholodenko immediately received a repeat invitation. The pianist also performed with Luxembourg, Malmö, Bordeaux, Copenhagen, Prague and other symphony orchestras. V. Kholodenko is a frequent guest in Japan, where he plays with the Japan Philharmonic and Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestras. The pianist's latest CD with recordings of works by Alexander Scriabin won the prestigious French “Diapason d'Or de l'année” award.

In Vilnius, V. Kholodenko shall perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s (1770-1827) Concerto No. 4 for piano and orchestra. Although after the 1808 premiere the review published in the “Musikalische Zeitung” appreciated the work as "the most charming, artistic and complex concerto written by L. Van Beethoven”, it was not performed for almost three decades, until in 1836 the Concerto was resurrected by composer Felix Mendelssohn.

During the second part of the concert, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra conducted by the artistic director and chief conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius, will continue Anton Bruckner's (1824-1896) symphony cycle and shall perform the composer's Fourth Symphony in E flat major, also called "Romantic". Although this is A. Bruckner's only symphony with a title, one should not look for a specific plot here; rather, its title aptly describes the general emotional tone of the work. In the 4th Symphony, the music expresses the feelings of a man captivated by nature. Although the music has a grandiose epic ambition, it is also fresh and poetic, full of the spirit of pantheism.
